Eliminating the Common Fears of a Boudoir Session

Boudoir is an incredibly empowering experience, but let’s be honest… It can also feel a little intimidating. If you’re considering a boudoir session but have a list of fears holding you back, you’re not alone.

At Sanctuary Boudoir, we hear these concerns all the time and we’re here to put your mind at ease. Below, we’re tackling the most common fears of a boudoir session, showing you how we address each one, and sharing a real client testimonial. Eliminating the common fears of a Boudoir Session can help you feel confident and excited for your session!

Fear #1: “I’m Not Confident Enough”

“I don’t feel sexy enough, confident enough, or like I belong in front of the camera.”

Solution: Confidence is not a requirement—it’s a result of your boudoir session. At Sanctuary Boudoir, you don’t need to know how to pose, how to feel confident, or what faces to make. That’s what we’re here for! From the moment you walk in, your photographer will guide you through every single step. 95% of our clients come in saying they are not confident and leave feeling like they could take on the world.

Proof: “Emma was absolutely amazing in telling me what to do and showing me what to do. She put my mind at ease immediately with how I felt like I looked vs. what she was truly seeing. It was like having my own personal cheerleader for the next few hours. I had SO MUCH FUN!!! It was completely different from what I had imagined and all in a positive and uplifting way”

Fear #2: “I Don’t Look Like the Women in the Photos”

“I’m not a model.” “My body isn’t perfect, and I’m nervous about how I’ll look.”

Solution: We will never get tired of screaming this from the rooftops… Boudoir is for EVERY woman. The women you see in our portfolio? They’re not models. They are real women just like you. Every curve, angle, and detail is celebrated in our sessions. Your photographer will use her expertise with lighting, poses, and styling to highlight your unique beauty. Which leaves us with another thing we will never get tired of hearing - the “I can’t believe that’s me” during our Photo Reveal Sessions.

Proof: “I couldn’t believe it was me!! I was utterly amazed by Emma’s artistry - and by her subject! I truly couldn't believe it was me. I am beautiful. I thanked Emma for capturing what I hadn’t been able to see in myself.”

Fear #3: “I Don’t Know What to Wear”

“I don’t have lingerie, and I wouldn’t know where to start.”

Solution: Don’t worry—Sanctuary Boudoir has you covered! We offer a full wardrobe guide, prep guide and complimentary consultation with every booking, to ensure that you feel excited for your session and not stressed about what to wear. Our comprehensive and carefully curated guides provide links to our favorite lingerie, shopping tips, and so much more! But remember, boudoir wardrobe can be anything from a lingerie set to a body simply draped in fabric. The most important element of the wardrobe is YOU!

Fear #4: “I’m Too Nervous to Pose”

“I’ve never done anything like this before, and I don’t know how to pose or what to do.”

Solution: Your photographer will pose you head to toe, coach facial expressions, and perfect the set and wardrobe the ENTIRE time that you are in front of their camera. Beyond being classically trained in fine art posing, we have spent years providing transformational boudoir sessions for hundreds of women. Which means we have photographed hundreds of unique body types, walks of life, and  personalities. You will never have to “know how to be sexy”, because you already are…exactly as you are.

Proof: “I had to do next to nothing! Emma made sure that my fingers were positioned, I was breathing when I needed to, that my bracelets were hanging the correct way… She gave me verbal instructions, and then would also physically show me the poses herself for me to understand what to do. There was no detail too small, Emma saw it all.”

Fear #5: “I’m Worried About Privacy”

“Will all of my photos be shared? What if I want to keep my photos private?”

Solution: Your privacy is our top priority. We will NEVER post your boudoir photos without your permission. All of the women that you see in our gallery are clients who signed a model release for us to share their images. At your ordering appointment you can let us know whether your images are to be kept completely private, partially private with anonymous photos only, or a full release to help inspire other women to book their experience. You are always in control!

Fear #6: “What If I’m On The Fence About Being Nude?”

“I’m scared I’ll feel awkward and exposed in front of the camera. Do I have to do fine art nudes?”

Solution: We understand that deciding to shoot fully nude can feel like a big step, and it’s completely normal to feel unsure! Ultimately, it’s all about what feels best to you! Capturing you in your most natural state can be an incredibly liberating experience. Our approach to nude photography is centered on elegance and empowerment. The only guideline we have is that our images cannot depict any sexual acts — we do not provide erotica photography services. This ensures that our focus remains on tasteful, celebratory, and artistic portraits that capture your strength, beauty, and confidence. Still on the fence? Don’t stress about it before your session. We will guide you every step of the way and create a safe, supportive, and inspiring environment where you feel comfortable and confident - regardless of whether you leave with fine art nudes or stunning images draped in lingerie.

Proof: “I remember Emma Jaye telling me in our consultation that we would shoot in two outfits, move to implied nudes, and work our way to full nudes. I don’t know if I said it out loud to her, but I definitely thought ‘You will not get me fully nude. I barely change clothes in front of my husband.’ By the time we got to the implied nudes, Emma Jaye had (how do you say this lightly) basically seen everything. So, I figured ‘if not now, when will you do this again?’ and I trusted her. Boy, am I glad that I did. Incredible doesn’t even begin to describe it. I never thought someone like me, a ‘big girl’ deserved to have a boudoir photoshoot, much less look good, dare I say stunning, in lingerie and even nude.”

Fear #7: “I Don’t Know Where to Start”

“The whole process feels overwhelming. How do I even begin?”

Solution: Congratulations, you’ve already started!  You’ve started by thinking about it, researching it, and reading this blog post. Now all you have to do is schedule a consultation call, so we can chat about your goals, style, and vision. We will answer all of your questions and walk you through the entire process every step of the way.
